Kazakhstan and Germany agreed to create a joint engineering center, KazTAG reports citing Kazakhstan Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. According to the document, the Ministry held the meeting with German delegation headed by deputy of Bundestag Michael Glos, Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Bavaria Reinhold Kremmel and Chairman of the Board of construction materials manufacturer HeidelbergCement Andreas Kern. "An agreement was reached to establish a joint Kazakh-German engineering center to help transfer leading technologies. National Innovations Fund will be a responsible administrator and a partner from Kazakhstan's side,” the Ministry's press-release writes. Besides, the parties discussed the details of cooperation prospects in the area of renewable energy sources, optimization of industrial processes in wastes disposal, including the waste generated by coal-fired power plants, effective energy use, purification and effective use of water resources. Special attention was given to development of clean technologies. The meeting also covered implementation of the Caspian Cement project. According to representatives of HeidelbergCement, the new plant in Shetpe village of Mangistau oblast will start producing cement using a modern environmentally-friendly and energy-saving dry method of production with the help of the latest high-tech equipment. The plant's capacity will reach up to 1 million tons of cement per year with an option of perspective development and doubling of the capacity. Overall amount of investments is estimated at around 200 million Euro. The meeting's participants noted that the new plant is a major contribution into social development of the region with a plan to provide over 400 new jobs for Kazakhstan employees. The plant is scheduled to start operating in the beginning of 2013. According to HeidelbergCement, over 70 million Euro have already been invested into development of the infrastructure. Works are being carried out to lay car roads and railroads, modernize Shetpe railroad station, install power linesand construct the field camp. Besides, the project's initiator is launching a program to train local personnel.
