Kostanay biologists have made sensational findings in Kushmurun coal mine located in Kostanay oblast in the center-north of Kazakhstan. They discovered remains of prehistoric animals, Tengrinews.kz reported, referring to the Channel 7. According to Yuriy Peregozhin, Professor of Kostanay State Pedagogical Institute, the scientists found pieces of a pterodactyl bone. Pterodactyl was a flying pangolin that lived in the Jurassic Age. It had spent 150 million years in the soil before being discovered by the scientists. Back then the territory of the region was covered in waters of the Tetis, an ancient sea. The pangolin used to fly over the sea. Mososaurs' tooth was another finding made by the scientists at the site. The animal looked like a huge goanna and lived in water. Mososaurs were the predominating sea predators. “It was a reptile weighting 16-18 tonnes,” the Professor said. The Kostanay scientists also found an ichthyosaurus. “It was a fish-pangolin. Unlike mososaurs' spinal bone its spinal bone had a fish-like structure,” Peregozhin said. The scientists also found a lot of imprints of prehistoric plants when examining the open-pit coal mine. The biologists were searching for the species of plants that gave origin to all the plant kingdom on the Earth, but in vain.
