Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev was awarded a prize of the American fund Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) for his nuclear threat reduction initiative, KazTAG reports citing press-service of Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “For the brave leadership of the pioneer, setting an example of nuclear threat reduction,” NTI’s press-release states. The official awarding ceremony of the American fund was timed to the 10th anniversary of its establishment. According to Foreign Ministry, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the U.S. Yerlan Idrissov received an award in Washington on behalf of Nursultan Nazarbayev. He noted, that Kazakhstan “fully supports the noble goals set forth by the NTI a decade ago.” The press-service also stated that American businessmen and philanthropist Ted Turner treated such decision of the NTI “as an acknowledgement of the huge contribution of President Nazarbayev into nuclear disarmament.” The list for the fund’s award also includes several major statesmen of Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Russia, the U.S. and Middle East. NTI fund is working to reduce global threats from nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
