According to exit polls and preliminary vote counting, the incumbent President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has gained over 97.5% votes in the early presidential election in Kazakhstan. Voter turnout reached 95.11%.

Political scientists Daniyar Ashimbayev and Adil Kaukenov shared their opinions of the reason for a record high turnout in Kazakhstan, a Tengrinews correspondent reports.

"The early presidential election held on April 26 set two records. The first one was the scale of the voter turnout. The turnout was unprecedented for almost all kinds of events of this type in the post-Soviet space and in the world in general, indicating a very high electoral activity, strong civic stance and, shall we say, a good work of electoral committees and staffs of the candidates, who have done a great job mobilizing the electorate," Daniyar Ashimbayev said in an interview in Astana.

"Secondly, the exit poll data points to the landslide victory of the incumbent president, who gained more than 97% of the vote. This testifies that the country's population places all their hopes on his further work,” Ashimbayev said.

He explained that this is because the population appreciated the progress made during Independence and Kazakhstan's achievements, such as “inter-ethnic harmony, political stability, economic reforms and a high level of social security.” He added that the choice of Kazakhstani people made it clear that they wanted to see their country moving in the direction of the new program proposed by Nazarbayev.

“And I think we can all be congratulated on this victory," Ashimbayev contended.

Another political analyst, Adil Kaukenov, also called the turnout in this election unprecedentedly high but added that this was to be expected.

"In fact, it was predictable that Kazakhstanis will go vote even before the election. This is because the people of Kazakhstan and Kazakhstani society as a whole are experiencing a period of high development. This development brings real and tangible achievements to every member of the society. These achievements are valued and appreciated, which is why Kazakhstanis want to keep these opportunities," the analyst said.

Kaukenov also connected high turnout with the processes of formation of a civil and democratic society in Kazakhstan.

"We can say that the society in Kazakhstan has indeed matured, it has survived many stages of development and has become quite a mature society that is willing to make an informed and wise choice. In addition, it should be noted that in recent years the development of Kazakhstan, the stability, which we have achieved, those undoubted successes both in the development of our capital and all the regions of our country – it is the vector that everyone approves of and everyone wants to contribute to,” Kaukenov said.

He pointed out that in a civil society, every member realizes that election is an essential element of its functioning and it can “consolidate the wealth of the country and its progress along the path towards democracy."
