A majority of polled Kazakhstan residents associate Almaty with mountains and apples, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the research held by the Institute of Political Solutions (IPS) reports. The poll was held among 2,308 people in 16 cities of Kazakhstan in August. 13.8 percent of respondents associate Almaty with “mountains and nature”. 11.8 percent talked about “the city of apples”. 11 percent of respondents consider Almaty “the main city of Kazakhstan”. “7.7 percent of the poll’s participants speak of Almaty as an economic and financial center. A smaller number of people associate Almaty with 'big opportunities, career and perspectives' (7.2 percent) and 'wealth and power' (7.1 percent). 5.6 percent of respondents say that Almaty is a cultural, scientific and educational center of Kazakhstan,” the message states. Another 5.4 percent of respondents link the city with traffic jams and pollution, while 5.2 percent associate it with expensive life and high prices. Every fifth polled Kazakhstan resident considers Almaty his or her favorite and dear city, while 4.3 percent respondents say they feel proud and patriotic about Almaty. “2.6 percent of respondents think that Almaty is a city of crime, corruption and lawlessness. 2.4 percent link the city with 'show-offs', especially young ones. 2.3 percent of the polled residents associate it with garbage and dirt and 2.1 percent think it’s a city of illegal immigrants from remote areas and neighboring countries,” IPS writes. Another 1.7 percent of the poll’s participants associate Almaty with “entertainment, casinos and clubs”, while 1.1 percent of respondents say that Almaty is a city that lacks culture or courtesy.
