February 28 the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kazakhstan registered another two presidential candidates – Mels Eleusizov and Gani Kassymov, a Tengrinews.kz journalist reports. Mels Eleusizov, a locally known environmentalist, collected 95 128 signatures of voters, while Senator Kassymov gathered 97 580 signatures. They both enjoy support of over 1% of voters: one of eligibility criteria for candidates is to gain support of at least 1% of voters evenly representing voters of Astana, Almaty and two thirds of the country's 14 oblasts. Besides, CEC has registered 4 foreign observers representing the Netherlands and Belgium. Registration is open to March 2, 2011.
