Gold production is expected to double in Kostanay Oblast in northern Kazakhstan, 24.kz reports. There are plans to double the amount of mined gold in Zhitikain Region of Kostanay Oblsast in northern Kazakhstan. The local administration said that 3 tons of the precious metal per year would be produced. The Komarov mine in Kostanay Oblast has been mining gold-bearing rock for more than a decade. According to the executive director of the mine Yuriy Stishenko, 25 million cubic meters of overburden rock (buckstone covering the mineral deposits that has to be removed during open-pit mining) has been removed and 10 million tons of ore has been produced since 2002. Stishenko added it was planned to extracted twice and a half more over the the nearest 15 years. "One ton of the local ore contains 2 grams of gold, it means we will get 50 tons of gold in 15 years," he said. According to him, an 18-kilogram ingot of doré bar -- a semi-pure alloy that contains 70% of gold and 30% of silver -- is produced every month. "We are producing 400 kilograms of this impure metal annually. We are looking into two more new investment projects for gold production that will double the overall production," Stishenko said. According to Akim (Governor) of Zhitikarin region Meiram Uteshev, the enterprise has already hired 35 people for its land and technical departments. "This company is going to recruited 60-65 more workers next year," he said. According to the Uteshev gold mining is not the only job creating industry in the region. He said that it was planned to invest nearly $500 million into the first stage of nickel-containing ore mining. The initial production is expected to make about 140 tons of nickel. "The nickel production at the Shevchenko field is going to create about 2 thousand jobs and become the largest project in the region in the nearest time," the Akim said.
