Tengrinews.kz - Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev revealed which airport a Vietnamese company will manage in Kazakhstan.
Context
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin told journalists that the Vietnamese company Sovico Group may purchase one of Kazakhstan’s airports. The same company acquired the airline Qazaq Air last year.
"In addition, they are considering purchasing an airport, or taking it over for management, because the airline needs a base airport," Zhumangarin said.
What the Foreign Ministry says
When asked in the Senate which airport Sovico Group may acquire, Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Bakayev said it would not be a purchase, but a management arrangement.
"Negotiations are ongoing. The idea is for the Vietnamese side to manage the airport for a certain period in order to improve its operations, particularly in terms of service. But this is not the purchase of the airport. At this stage, we are talking about the airport in the Kyzylorda region," Bakayev said.
