Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan has begun to be recognized as a middle power abroad, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during an official ceremony for awarding state honors in celebration of Republic Day.

In his speech, the Head of State focused on foreign policy, noting its direct impact on the internal situation of the country and the well-being of its citizens.

"Kazakhstan pursues a balanced and constructive foreign policy based on national interests. This year has been particularly eventful for us in terms of international engagements. Kazakhstan chaired several multilateral organizations and hosted a number of large-scale events. Notably, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and the World Nomad Games stand out. Our country continues to strengthen its presence on the global stage, contributing significantly to achieving sustainable development goals and addressing global challenges," Tokayev said.

He emphasized that the mission of Kazakh diplomacy, rooted in the centuries-old traditions of the Great Steppe, is to amplify Kazakhstan’s voice on the international stage.

"Our country is now being referred to as a middle power abroad, but this is no reason for complacency. Rather, it should serve as motivation for continued active engagement. You can see that conflicts around the world are multiplying, a new arms race is gaining momentum, and trade wars are intensifying," the President said.

He stated that the most dangerous trend, however, is the militarization of consciousness, the growing mistrust and rejection of others' positions, and the shrinking space for dialogue and consensus.

"These are all signs of a rapidly changing world order. We are doing everything we can to remain a territory of stability and harmony in these conditions," he said.

Previously, President Tokayev commented on the results of the nuclear power plant referendum and outlined the government’s tasks.
