Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev suggested Mr. Kairat Mami to the position of the Senate Speaker.Senators have supported his candidacy.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev suggested Mr. Kairat Mami to the position of the Senate Speaker. Earlier Mr. Mami held the position of the Prosecutor General, Novosti Kazakhstan reports. Senators have supported his candidacy. Kairat Mami was aborn May 9, 1954 in Zhambyl oblast. He graduated from the Kazakh State University with a major in Law. He served as Vice Minister of Justice, Vice head of the President’s Administration, Chairman of the Supreme Court, Prosecutor General. Earlier Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, was relieved of his duties of the Senate Speaker as he had been named the new Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva. Mr. Kairat Mami is the 5th Senate Speaker in Kazakhstan. January 30, 1996 Mr. Omirbek Baigeldy was named to fill in the position. In 1999 he was replaced by Mr. Oralbai Abdykarimov. March 10, 2004 the position was taken by Mr. Nurtai Abykaev who later was re-elected December 1, 2005. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was chosen to be the Speaker January 11, 2007.
