Tengrinews.kz - A 16-year-old boy from Kokshetau was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain after energy drink consumption caused a perforated stomach ulcer. Doctors had to perform emergency surgery.
Surgeons at the Multidisciplinary Regional Children’s Hospital in Kokshetau conducted a complex laparoscopic operation, during which they sutured the ulcer, cleaned the abdominal cavity of pus, and installed a drainage system.
Doctors say the teen’s life was saved, but he faces a long and difficult recovery.
“He was diagnosed with a perforated stomach ulcer and diffuse purulent peritonitis. The cause of this serious condition was excessive consumption of energy drinks.
The boy’s recovery will be long, and his health will never be the same. A scar and stomach adhesion will remain,” said head surgeon Ernur Kozhabekov.

Doctors emphasized that energy drinks are far from harmless, especially for adolescents. They urge parents to monitor what their children consume and warn adults to reconsider drinking such beverages altogether.
According to medical experts, overuse of energy drinks can lead to ulcers, gastritis, heart issues, and other serious complications.
Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Healthcare announced that a 45-day-old baby weighing just 1 kilogram had undergone a complex heart surgery in Shymkent.
