Tengrinews.kz — The Ministry of Healthcare has urged parents to pay special attention to children’s safety during the summer holidays. According to the ministry, almost every second visit to the children’s trauma center of the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine in Astana is related to incidents outdoors. Tengrinews.kz reports on the injuries children most often sustain.
“Outdoor injuries”
According to the Ministry of Healthcare, since February, the children’s trauma center has provided medical assistance to 6,740 children with injuries, fractures, dislocations and other types of trauma.
Of the total number of patients, 4,042 children, or 59.9 percent, were boys, while 2,698, or 40.1 percent, were girls.
An analysis of visits showed that the most common cause of childhood injuries is outdoor trauma, accounting for 45.2 percent of all cases. Domestic injuries are in second place at 29.2 percent, followed by sports injuries at 11.8 percent, injuries sustained at schools and preschool institutions at 10.5 percent, musculoskeletal disorders at 2.4 percent and road accidents at 0.7 percent.
Bruises and sprains remain the most common injuries, occurring in more than half of cases. Fractures account for almost a third of all visits, while dislocations make up about 11 percent.
The Ministry of Healthcare reminded parents that most childhood injuries can be prevented. To do this, it is important not to leave children unattended, to use protective gear during sports activities, to follow traffic rules and to create safe conditions for play and recreation.
