New technologies can help young apple trees to bear fruits in two years, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Minister of Agriculture Assylzhan Mamytbekov. Naturally apple trees start bearing fruits only after six years.
The Minister said that a program on revival of Aport apples is being developed these days. “This issue is complex, there is not just a practical part about it, but also a scientific part. Considering high competition in the apple market, we need to modernize our gardens; this would allow us to produce the apples at low costs and keep them fresh for a long time, which is required for their competitiveness,” he said.
Assylzhan Mamytbekov did not give any concrete time of the planned revival of Almaty apple gardens, but noted that the program is being attended to. “The project is being implemented in Uigur region of Almaty oblast, there we have produced first apples last year and the apples are being sent to markets of Almaty and other regions of the country,” he said.
Earlier Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his disappointment with the work of the authorities of Almaty and Almaty oblast to revive the Aport apples and instructed them to take respective measures.
