The number of road police patrols will be decreased; they will be replaced with road surveillance cameras, Tengrinews.kz reports. Akim (Mayor) of Almaty city Akhmetzhan Yessimov said this at the press lunch on June 25.
“The number of traffic cameras will the greatly increase. The city is going to be packed with cameras. This will enable us to reduce the number of road police patrols,” the Akim said. But the declined to give the exact number of personnel of the Road Police Department of Department of Internal Affairs of Almaty that is expected to be axed.
Earlier Yessimov declared that hundreds of surveillance posts - cameras registering all kinds of traffic violations - would be installed in Almaty. “For dishonest police officers to be less tempted with bribes we have launched the project of registering traffic violations with the use of traffic cameras. We are going to install over 100 surveillance posts all throughout the city,” the city Mayor said.
