Kazakhstan Vice-PM Bakytzhan Sagintayev has instructed Akim (Governor) of Almaty oblast to deal with moving the household waste graveyard away from Almaty airport to another location within a week, Tengrinews.kz reports. Sagintayev stressed that Tazar dump site that was suspended in December 2012 still endangered aircrafts. According to President of Almaty international airport Aibol Bekmukhambetov, around 60 aircrafts have struk birds flying over the garbage dump over the past 1.5 years. According to Sagintayev, the oblast administration has to issue a decree on relocation of the site within a week and the issue has to be fully solved by June 15. As for the financing, Vice-PM noted that the issue would be discussed after a feasibility study is ready. Meanwhile, Akim of Almaty oblast suggested that the whole procedure would require around 500 million tenge ($3.3 million). The polygon is located near the airdrome of Almaty airport. The new site for garbage storage with an area of 16.4 hectares will be located 3km from the western side of Zhalgamys village. This way the distance between the airport and the graveyard will make 24km. The Specialized Interregional Economic Court of Almaty oblast ruled out to close Tazar site and move it to another location in December 2012. By Roza Yessenkulova
