Tengrinews.kz – More than 1 million jobs in Kazakhstan could be taken over by artificial intelligence (AI), according to a study conducted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
The study, titled 'Assessment of the Impact of Automation, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence on the Labor Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan', was conducted in 2022.
"The study analyzed the potential replacement of jobs through automation, robotics, or generative AI (GAI) across 423 occupational groups. It found that 29% of workers' tasks could be automated, while 13% could be performed using generative AI," the ministry stated in response to an official inquiry.
The findings indicate that 25% of jobs face a moderate to high risk of automation, while around 12% have a moderate to high likelihood of being replaced by generative AI.
"Under certain conditions, approximately 2.2 million jobs could be automated, with just over 1 million specifically at risk due to the widespread adoption of generative AI. The most significant impact is expected in major cities, where 33% to 36% of jobs could be automated, as well as in industrial regions," the report noted.
Among Kazakhstan’s cities, Almaty is expected to be most affected, as it serves as a central hub for finance and information and communication technology - sectors particularly vulnerable to AI-driven job displacement.
Industry-wise, the highest potential for AI replacement is in professional, scientific, and technical services, as well as in healthcare.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan and China plan to establish a joint artificial intelligence laboratory.
