Tengrinews.kz - Red Book lynxes are increasingly being encountered in Almaty Nature Reserve, this time we managed to capture little lynx cubs in the frame.
During scientific observations, it was possible to record the appearance of cubs. Initially, cameras captured one cub, but later visual observations showed that there were two of them. This is an important indicator indicating the reproduction of lynxes in the reserve. Cubs stay with their mother for up to two years, learning to hunt and survive in the wild.

The Turkestan lynx belongs to the cat family and lives in the Almaty Nature Reserve at altitudes from 1200 to 3500 meters. Recent studies have confirmed that these predators are found even in the alpine zone. In the summer, a camera trap recorded a lynx at an altitude of 3500 meters.
Rare inhabitants of the Almaty Nature Reserve are increasingly being captured by camera traps. Over the past year, cameras have recorded the Turkestan lynx 32 times, proving its permanent presence in this region.
The Turkestan lynx is listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan (category III) and is included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Its population is declining due to the destruction of its natural habitat and the threat of poaching. However, frequent appearances of the predator on camera traps give hope that these graceful animals will be able to retain their place in the wild nature of Kazakhstan.
