The authorities of Zhambyl Oblast are taking precocious against floods, Tengrinews reports citing the press-service of the Oblast's Akim (Governor). All the region’s water storage basins are 60-70% full. We have bought 9 vehicles to prevent any flood-related emergencies from happening. “We have set a 24/7 watch of all large water basins and a daily reporting to the Emergencies Department of Zhambyl Oblast to prevent floods," the Governor's office says. Besides, a commission has been formed to check the condition of all the hydraulic engineering installations and water reservoirs in the region. About $1.7 million have been allocated from the Oblast's budget to repair 10 water reservoirs, 49 water channels and their hydraulic engineering installations for the year of 2014. And $824 thousands were allocated to prevent and eliminate the emergencies in the region. "All regional emergency squads and those of Taraz city are on high alert and stand ready to fight the flooding threat. These is enough fuel and other materials for the vehicles," the Governor's press-service says. There are 117 water reservoirs in Zhambyl Oblast.
