Two people were killed in the fire in one of the production departments of ArcelorMittal Temirtau (metallurgic plant) located in Karaganda oblast. Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the press office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan. The fire was extinguished by personnel from Orleu firefighting brigade of ArcelorMittal Temirtau. As the ministry reports, a 40-year old senior firefighter died in the fire, as well as a 45-year old operator of an over-head type crane. Her body was found later. The firefighting brigade's chief was taken to the hospital with severe burns. The press office of ArcelorMittal Temirtau reports that the fire outbreak of the conveyor belt supplying charging material into the blast furnace started at 14.30 on May 15. The fire was brought under control at 17.55. “The facility is now being cooled. The production in the major departments (blast-furnace, steel-smelting) of the metallurgic plant is very limited until the aftermath of the accident is removed, other departments are operating at a normal pace,” they explain at the plant. The causes of the fire are to be identified, the investigation is in place.
