Untimely snow cleaning has caused a collapse of the roof in a supermarket in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Astana administration. 600 square meters of the roof of Magnum supermarket collapsed on March 3. Two guards were rescued, one of them was hospitalized. Another 50 people were evacuated. No casualties were reported. According to the administration’s press-service, an inter-authority commission was formed in Astana administration. It is led by deputy Akim of Astana Vassiliy Krylov. “Accumulation of a large amount of snow because of the untimely cleaning has caused a partial collapse of the roof of Magnum supermarket,” head of Astana Department for Mobilization Training, Civil Defense, Prevention and Elimination of Accidents and Natural Disasters Timur Abizhanov said. Height of the snow on the roof of the supermarket made around 2 meters. “The building of the supermarket is owned by Magnum Cash& Carry. According to article 189 of the Civil Code of Kazakhstan, the owner shall bear responsibility for maintenance of his property,” the press-service wrote. “The total area of the building makes 8,215 square meters. The roof is made of metal structures, the walls are made of sandwich panels. The lighting is 380-220V and the heating is autonomous,” the message stated.
