Spain has extradited Keles Mambetov, a Kazakhstani accused of murder in 2004 and put on the international wanted list, Tengrinews reports citing the Prosecutor General’s official website.

In March 2004, Keles Mambetov murdered his entrepreneur acquaintance from Astana outside of the city. After that, Mambetov escaped on the victim’s car taking a large amount of money that the murdered woman had with her. The Kazakhstani was put on the Interpol wanted after that.

In 2007 Mambetov who at that moment was living in Spain under forged documents, was arrested for inflicting bodily harm and sentenced to 7 years in prison. The Interpol recognized him as a wanted man.

The Prosecutor General’s Office had been keeping correspondence with the Spanish law enforcement on extradition of the fugitive Kazakhstani. Spain, considering the degree of Mambetov’s crime,  temporarily extradited him to Kazakhstan, despite the fact that two countries did not have an extradition agreement back then. Mambetov was returned to Spain to serve the full sentence after the investigation and trial took place in Kazakhstan.

After serving his sentence, Mambetov was extradited to Kazakhstan and at the moment he remains in one of Astana’s jails.

The investigation of the murder established Mamebtov’s guilt. On March 18, 2011, the court sentenced Keles Mambetov to 14 years of prison. The defendant appealed against the court decision by writing a single phrase: “I do not agree with the decision of the court”.
