The Board of Directors of KazMunaiGas Exploration and Production (KMG EP) has changed following the extraordinary general meeting of its shareholders, Tengrinews reports referring to the press release on the meeting's results.

KMG EP founded back in March 2004 is the LSE-listed subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s state-owned oil and gas company KazMunaiGas. It is one of Kazakhstan's leading company in hydrocarbon exploration and production, and one of the largest companies of the oil and gas sector in the Caspian region in western Kazakhstan.

Christopher Hopkinson, First Deputy Chair of the Management Board of KazMunaiGas, became a new member of KMG EP Board of Directors.

The appointment followed Daniyar Berlibayev’s resignation as Chair of the KMG EP Board of Directors and as a member of the Board of Directors. According to the CEO of KMG EP Abat Nurseitov, Daniyar Berlibayev made a significant contribution to the development of oil production, particularly to the increase in its production from mature fields. Thanks to Berlibayev, the company also improved the quality of decisions made by the managing bodies. Abat Nurseitov wished Daniyar Berlibayev success in his future career.

Christopher Hopkinson has been in oil and gas since 1980. Before he joined KMG, he worked as CEO of International Petroleum, General Director of Imperial Energy and Senior Vice President for North African assets at BG Group, a British multinational oil and gas company. He also occupied different positions at Shell.

Christopher Hopkinson was appointed as a member of the KMG EP Board of Directors based on recommendations of a majority of shareholders. Hopkinson has an expertise in KMG in supervising the implementation of strategies of development for subsidiaries, affiliates and joint ventures in oil and gas production.

He also coordinates the implementation of oil production and resource base growth programmes. His expertise also includes monitoring technical assessments of the existing and newly acquired oil and gas projects in Kazakhstan and abroad, international cooperation in the field of exploration and production of oil and gas, particularly transfer of technologies under the international agreements.
