Timur Bekmambetov is going to make a film about the patent war between American inventor Thomas Edison and engineer George Westinghouse who fight over the right to be named the first inventor of the sustainable electrical current, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Variety.
Composer and playwright Michael Mitnick wrote the script for The Current War that chronolyzes the competition between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse. The script was listed on Hollywood’s Black List in 2011, the list of the most attractive scripts without funding.
Bekmambetov’s Bazelevs company purchased the screen rights and is going to finance the project through Bazelevs' independent fund. Bekmambetov will be directing the movie. The budget is still unknown. British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is interested in Edison’s role.
Bekmambetov’s movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will be released in June this year.
Timur Nuruakhitovich Bekmambetov is a Kazakhstan-born film director, producer and screenwriter. He is best known for the Russian film Night Watch (2004) and its sequel Day Watch (2006), and the American filmWanted (2008).
