Chinese and Kyrgyz visas of participants of the expedition to K2 have expired. This makes further attempts to ascend Chogori formally illegal.

According to Kazakh climber Maksut Zhumayev, the team has set the route to the fourth camp and set the camp. This fulfills the main goal of their fourth acclimatization ascent.

К2 expedition stoped several hundred meters before the fourth camp

Chogori is 8,611 meters high. So to reach the peak the team will have to cover another 811 meters of height.

According to Kazakh alpinist Maksut Zhumayev they’ve received weather forecasts that the weather will be good enough until Tuesday for the final ascent.

Good weather on August 4 allowed the team to ascend 500 meters of Chogori.

K2 expedition covered a record distance in one day

The team of alpinists ascended 1300 meters in 11 hours. Their trip from the first camp to the second was one of the most difficult and exhausting.

Alpinists of K2 expedition fell through a crack

The team managed to promptly get Maksut Zhumayev and Ralf Dujmovits from the crack in the ice. None of the climbers received any serious injuries.

This forced delay might prevent Zhumayev from congratulating his son on his birthday from the height of 8000m.

Bad weather is preventing the expedition from starting the four acclimatization ascent. During the days of rest they spent time practicing aerial stunts.
