Students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will take part in five tournaments at the London Olympics, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the University’s press-service. 11 students won the licenses to the Games. They include two-time weightlifting champion Svetlana Podobedova, track and field athletes Aiman and Sholpan Kozhakhmetovas, Viktor Leptikov, Anastassiya Pilipenko. Nikita Filippov, Georgy Sheiko, water polo player Aleksey Shmider, fencers Yuliya Zhivitsa and Elmir Alimzhanov, as well as judoka Gulzhan Issanova. Prior to the Olympics, the University’s president Galym Mutanov met with the members of Kazakhstan national team. “We are proud that you show good results not only in studies but also in sports. Kazakh ancient tradition is to wish Ak Zhol (white road in Kazakh) to those going for a long trip,” he said. Every year students of Kazakh National University become winners of prestigious national and international tournaments, contests and spartakiads. The 30th Olympic Games will be held in London on July 27 to August 12. London will become the first city to host the Games for the third time (earlier they were held there in 1908 and 1948). Kazakhstan will be represented by 116 sportsmen .
