Kukushkin wins Wawrinka in first round of Swiss Indoors

Kazakhstani tennis player Mikhail Kukushkin has won the fourth best tennis player in the world Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland in Basel, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.


Kazakhstani tennis player Mikhail Kukushkin has won the fourth best tennis player in the world Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland in Basel, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Kukushkin faced Wawrinka in the first round of the Swiss Indoors with a €1.5 million prize money. Before the match, Wawrinka said that he had previously played against Kukushin and it was easy. The match lasted for two hours and 15 minites. Kukushkin won Wawrinka in three sets with 6:4, 6:7, 6:3.

The Kazakhstani tennis player won Wawrinka for the first time in 2010 at the Davis Cup in Astana. Kukushkin won in five sets and the team Switzerland lost to Kazakhstan 0:5. But Roger Federer brought the scores to 2:3 and Switzerland made it into the semi final. The match in Basel evened the personal score between two tennis players to 2:2.

Next, Kukushkin faced Benjamin Becker from Germany in the second round and lost in three sets.

The Kazakhstani is in the 84th place in the ATP.
