An inventor from Kazakhstan claims that his installation can be used to turn puddles and salty water into fresh drinking water, Tengrinews reports.

Boris Pilat hopes that his invention will receive a warm welcome abroad. The prototype will first be shown in Belgium.

"Salt marshes are everywhere - in Turkmenistan, Mongolia, the United States and China. As a rule, there is salty water. In Kazakhstan about 90% of all water is brackish, not suitable for drinking. We are working on the installation and hope to sell it in different countries. A family can take water from any puddle and then purify and drink it immediately,” the scientist said.

He added that their invention was based on a Kazakhstani partly patented technology.

The core method of the installation is combined dialysis - purification of low molecular weight compounds using a semi-permeable membrane. In addition, the device also employs mechanical cleaning methods. Furthermore, the installation will disinfect the water.

Pilat said that a solar battery of a car battery can be used as a source of energy. The power supply is needed to create an electric field to remove salt ions.

Curiously, the installation can be used in space. Pilat spoke about a special desalination unit, which can possibly be used in expeditions to the moons of Mars and Jupiter. In this case, scientists are not interested in drinking water. Rather, they would focus on desalting water to make it suitable for lab tests that are made to identify presence of organic compounds in alien water, in other words - find signs of alternative life forms.
