US President Barack Obama marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Tuesday with a warning that the world needs to combat resurgent anti-Semitism, AFP reports.

Pledging "never to forget" the six million Jews and countless others murdered by Germany's Nazi regime, Obama called on the international community to guarantee it will "never happen again."

His comments came as survivors gathered at the notorious concentration camp in Poland for commemorations made more poignant by recent anti-Jewish attacks that have shaken Europe.

"The recent terrorist attacks in Paris serve as a painful reminder of our obligation to condemn and combat rising anti-Semitism in all its forms, including the denial or trivialization of the Holocaust," Obama said in a statement.

"Today we come together and commit, to the millions of murdered souls and all survivors, that it must never happen again."
