Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Envoy of the Pope, Dean of the College of Cardinals, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service. The meeting was held on September 6. Nazarbayev noted success in cooperation between Kazakhstan and Vatican and expressed gratitude for the Holy See's support of his idea to host the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan and for their active participation in its work. Sodano conveyed greetings from Pope Benedict XVI and emphasized that Vatican highly valued Kazakhstan’s contribution into development of cross-confessional accord and its role in strengthening of the international security, as well as into the inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialog and tolerance. Kazakhstan currently has over 100 catholic cathedrals and chapels.
