When meeting his Ukrainian counterpart Petr Poroshenko, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared that Kazakhstan was ready to keep on developing ties with Ukraine and was interested in soonest possible settlement of the conflict, a Tengrinews journalist reports from Minsk, Belarus.

“Kazakhstan and Ukraine have always been maintaining friendly ties. In the recent years the two nations have launched a number of JVs and are working on joint projects. (…) I am deeply concerned over what is happening in Ukraine. (…) The most important thing is for you to have straightforward face to face talks with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. For both nations it is the high noon. The bloodshed and sufferings of common people should be stopped (…),” President Nazarbayev said when meeting Petr Poroshenko.

“The intergovernmental committee [of Kazakhstan and Ukraine] should keep on its work, (…) we strive for friendly relations, further trade ties against a peaceful backdrop,” he said, adding that “here in Kazakhstan we love Ukraine as there is a vast Ukrainian community here, which is a bridge between the two nations.”
