Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev discussed development of Kashagan and Karachaganak fields with Eni's CEO Paolo Scaroni on October 2, Tengrinews.kz reports citing President’s website. “The meeting covered oil and gas cooperation and development of Kashagan and Karachaganak fields, in particular,” the message states. Scaroni updated the President on the course of implementation of the Cooperation and Understanding Agreement on Investments in Kazakhstan’s Industrial Infrastructure between KazMunaiGas - Kazakstan's national oil and gas company - and Italian Eni in 2009. Then Nursultan Nazarbayev checked into the joint projects on construction of a ship repair facility at the Caspian Sea and a gas turbine power station in West-Kazakhstan oblast. Eni is one of the world’s biggest integrated companies. Its activities include oil and gas, production of energy and oil chemicals, field services and designing. Eni used to lead the consortium of transnational companies developing Kashagan in Kazakhstan and operated the gigant Kashagan field from 2001 to 2009.
