Kazakhstan National Bank will attract Kazakhstan manufacturers for the next cars procurement tender, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the Bank’s chairman Gregory Marchenko as replying to a journalist’s question about Kazakhstan President’s remark about the officials still driving expensive foreign cars. Earlier Nursultan Nazarbayev bashed Kazakhstan government officials for defying his orders and continuing to purchase fancy foreign-made cars at the budget's expense. The President once again called to support local manufacturers and not spend the state money on Mercedes. Answering the journalist's question on whether Marchenko is going to replace his car, he said that unlike representatives of other state authorities, he had never driven Mercedes cars. The National Bank holds a tender to procure cars every 5-6 years and Toyota won it twice and Nissan once in the past. According to Marchenko, thanks to the proper tender procedures, that bank purchased the cars with a 40 percent discount. “The car I’m driving is not mine, I have never bought it. Of course, the national manufacturers will be invited for the next tender. And if they have a better quality to price ratio, they will win the tender. If I don’t like Skoda, I will buy a car I like at my own expense and will drive it,” Marchenko said.
