Kyrgyzstan will pay off its debts for gas supplied by Kazakhstan before the end of 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Turgunbek Kulmurzayev, KyrgyzGas General Director as saying. According to him, KazTransGas demanded KyrgyzGas pay off its debts before the contract for gas supplies can be extended to the end of 2013. The sides have agreed to stagedly pay off the debt. KyrgyzGas has drawn up a schedule of payments. Kyrgyzstan is to start paying off the debt of $12.2 million for supplies of Kazakhstan’s gas as early as this October. In line with the schedule, the first $1.5 million is to be paid off in October, with another $5 million in November and the other $5.7 million in December. Kazakhstan hasn’t agreed to extending gas supplies so far. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that Kyrgyzstan owes to Kazakhstan over $10 million for gas supplies. State-owned enterprises have been the major debtors. Kyrgyzstan earlier extended the contract for gas supplies to the end of October at $224 per a thousand cubic meters.
