In his speech to the Eurasian Club in Berlin Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev stated that “at my numerous meetings with President of Iran, Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with whom I have had amicable relations, I have cited Kazakhstan as an example of a nation that voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons. (…) From this rostrum I am once again sending a message for the leadership of Iran, asking them to consider Kazakhstan’s example to win the confidence of the world. Quite a different situation would then take place in our region. I am asking the leadership of Germany, the USA to initiate direct talks [with Iran] without putting forward any preliminary conditions and to discuss the issue with the Iranian leadership. It will be a right step to do (…)”. Kazakhstan’s President is on his official visit to Germany. On the first day of his visit he attended the opening of the Eurasian Club in Berlin, a forum to discuss political and social cooperation issues between the two countries
