Kazakhstan and the United States will form a bilateral commission for trade and investments, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the secretariat of Kazakhstan Ministry of Economic Integration. “To improve bilateral trade and attract American investments into non-energy sectors of Kazakhstan economy, a decision was made to form a bilateral commission on trade and investments between Kazakhstan and the U.S.,” the secretariat announced. The decision was made in Washington during talks on Kazakhstan’s accession into the WTO. Agreements on protection of intellectual property rights, trade policies and technical barriers in trade were also reached during the talks. The negotiations also covered state support to agriculture, regulation of state-run trade companies and application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures in trade with the third countries. “The talks on the core issues between Kazakhstan and the U.S. are currently at the completion stage,” first deputy trade representative of the U.S. Dimitrius Marantis said. Kazakhstan Minister of Economic Integration Zhanar Aitzhanova met with representatives of the White House, State Department, Senate and U.S. trade representative’s office. During the meetings the U.S. once again reiterated their significant interest in Kazakhstan in terms of acceleration of the investment cooperation for further diversification of Kazakhstan’s economy and expressed support to Kazakhstan’s soonest accession into the WTO. Kazakhstan Minister of Economic Integration Zhanar Aitzhanova held a briefing for representatives of the U.S. Senate finance commission on negotiations of Kazakhstan’s accession into the WTO and regional economic integration, where the American representatives expressed readiness to support Kazakhstan in the coming multilateral talks to be held in Geneva in December.
