Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has called Kazakhstan's victory in the bidding to host the International specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 “a result of efforts of all Kazakhstan people”, Tengrinews.kz reports citing President’s official website. President noted that the decision to hold EXPO-2017 in Astana is a historical event for the country. “At EXPO exhibitions all countries show their best technological, scientific and cultural achievements. They form a new agenda of global development. These events are visited by millions of people from dozens of countries from all continents. Astana’s victory in the competitive battle has not been accidental. First of all, this is an acknowledgement of our capital being a center that deserves hosting a world-level event. Secondly, the choice of Kazakhstan speaks of a high acknowledgement of our country’s success and stresses the prospects of its development, just as those of the whole Eurasian region. Thirdly, the relevance of the subject suggested by us - the Energy of the Future - helped us win too. And finally, Astana’s victory became a result of the efforts of all Kazakhstan people,” Nazarbayev said. President congratulated all Kazakhstan people on the victory. “We now have another task: to hold EXPO-2017 at a high level. This is not only a test for the country. The exhibition will help us unleash our creative potential. EXPO in Astana will boost innovative development of the country,” President stressed. He expressed confidence that the country will successfully accomplish this mission. The secret voting of the member-countries of the International Exhibitions Bureau was held in Paris on November 22. Belgian Liege was Astana’s main competitor in the bid to host EXPO-2017. Astana received 103 votes, while Liege got only 44.
