Almaty starts fund-raising for Japan

Almaty-based Kazakhstan-Japanese center a fund-raising campaign for victims of the recent monstrous quake and tsunami in Japan, Tengrinews.kz reports. The raised money will be sent to Japan International Cooperation Agency. Despite of the fact that the campaign has just started, the administration gets lots of phone calls from the citizens asking for the address to bring in the money, said Assel Ismaiylova, administrator of the Kazakhstan-Japanese center. Kainar University, Kazakh Economic University and Gumilyov University (Astana) have already made their donations. The 9.0-magnitude quake followed by a 9-meter tsunami struck Japan on March 11 and was closely followed by the disaster on Fukushima-1 power plant leaking radiation.
