According to the State Agency for Statistics, the number of economically active people exceeded 8.6 million in the Q2 2011, 51 000 people up against the like period of 2010, Bnews.kz reported. According to the Labor Ministry, the number of employed citizens in the Q2 2011 made up 8 204 400 people, with the unemployed standing at 467 000. The level of unemployment stood at 5.4% (as compared to 5.8% in the Q2 2010). July 11, Kazakhstan’s Government adopted a program to boost employment before 2020. According to the Labour Minister Ms. Gulshara Abdykalikova, the Program will cover a total of 1.5 million people by 2015. In the current year $274 million is earmarked out of the central budget to finance the program. State support will be rendered to about 100 000 people. “The money will go to finance professional training first of all (…) The program will reach out to rural areas as well. A second direction will be providing of smaller loans of up to $20 000”, the Minister emphasized.
