Citizens of Almaty spend 2.5 billion a year on food. Almaty oblast meets the city’s demand for food by 35%, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. Out of the 20 food products that make up the basis of the market basket Almaty oblast fully covers Almaty City’s demand for potatoes, onions, poultry and eggs. According to the city’s mayor office, Almaty oblast delivers food products worth $900 million a year and the remaining $1.6 billion worth of food is brought from other regions of Kazakhstan or from abroad.
