Major large-scale training of air defense services of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries will be held in autumn 2012 in Kazakhstan, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports citing Commander-in-Chief of Russia’s Military Air Forces Colonel General Aleksandr Zelin.
According to Zelin, the training will be attended by all countries of the Commonwealth willing to take part. A meeting of Defense Ministers of CIS member-countries will be held on November 17. The plan of operative and military training for 2012 will be approved at the meeting.
The 25th meeting of the air defense coordination commission of CIS countries was held on September 11 in Astrakhan, Russia. The meeting was attended by delegations from Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. Third stage of “Military Commonwealth-2011” trainings of Military Air Forces and Air Defense service of CIS countries will be held on September 13 at Ashluk military polygon.
A meeting of CIS Defense Ministers Council was held in July 2011 to revise prospects of development of joint air defense system of CIS countries. The Ministers came up with a development plan of military cooperation until 2015 at the meeting.
