President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has endorsed the law On ratification of treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Bulgaria on extradition, Tengrinews reports citing the official website of the President.
The treaty aims to increase the effectiveness of cooperation in combating crime and settling differences between competent bodies from both countries in the realm of extradition.
Pertaining to the document, both countries agree to extradite wanted persons arrested in their territories to the other for the purpose of prosecution or serving of sentences for extraditable offences in their home countries.
Around 200 Kazakhstanis were extradited from foreign countries in 2014, the Prosecutor's Office said.
Kazakhstan signed a similar extradition agreement with Romania last year.
According to Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Johann Merkel, Kazakhstan has extradition treaties with 12 countries, including China, South Korea, UAE, India, Mongolia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and others. Kazakhstan plans to enter into similar agreements with Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Brazil, Malaysia, and Pakistan in the nearest future.
