Kazakhstan Ministry of Transport is going to fine companies around $2,200 if their trucks are caught carrying excessively heavy loads that exceed standards, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Asset Assavbayev, chairman of Transport Control Committee of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. According to him, China-made trucks that ride Kazakhstan highways spoil the road’s surface. The Ministry’s officials have already fined one transport company for exceeding the maximum allowed freight weight. If a truck is caught carrying excessive load for the first time the company is issued a warning and the truck is prohibited from transporting anything for a period of time. But if the truck is caught overloaded again, a fine of about $2,200 is imposed. According to Assavbayev, about 20 such cases are being processed at present. There is a possibility that activities of the companies whose trucks were carrying the extra-heavy freights would be frozen. Assavbayev said that 13 automatic weighting systems will be installed at intercity highways by the end of this year. Every car and every truck driving through these inspection stations will be weighed. There will be no way for drivers to bypass the weighting stations, because of the barriers installed along the road. Moreover a police van will be always stationed at the station. If an excessively loaded truck passes through the measuring system the system will register the violation and a fine will be imposed on the owner of the truck: a fine notification will be delivered by regular mail,” Assavbayev said and added that about 80 automatic weighting systems will be installed by 2014 in Kazakhstan. The first systems will appear along Almaty-Yekaterinburg highway. Besides spoiling the road surface, overloaded trucks after create excessive risk of accident. For example a big road traffic accident happened in the end of this summer on Almaty-Yekaterinburg highway. A China-made truck crashed into a buss killing 16 people died. Overload that crippled the trucks maneuvering capabilities is believed to be one of the causes of the accident. Another massive car accident that involved 13 vehicles in Almaty might also be caused by excessive load. A driver of a China-made truck is blamed for this accident.
