Yermukhamet Yertysbayev, Advisor to the President, supports abolishment of the capital punishment in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reported. He believes that in cases of especially grave crimes life sentence should be applied instead. “Life is given by God. However grave a crime may be, but killing a human by another human is a new crime,” the advisor said. On March 28 Kazakhstan’s Human Rights Committee recommended the Government to ratify the 2nd faculty protocol to the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights to abolish the capital punishment. In 2003 President Nazarbayev issued a decree to introduce indefinite moratorium on capital punishment in Kazakhstan.
