Tengrinews.kz — The Kazakh government has updated the rules for using state symbols. The document sets out in detail where and how the national flag may be displayed, and lists the cases in which its use is prohibited.

One of the main changes concerns the display of the national flag by citizens. The document now directly states that individuals and legal entities may display the flag on residential and non-residential buildings, including on balconies. When displayed on a balcony, it must be installed at a 45-degree angle.

In addition, the rules clarify the conditions under which the national flag may be used:

  • on individual residential houses, it may be installed at a height of at least three meters, while illumination at night is not mandatory;
  • the flag must not touch the ground, floor, water or other surfaces;
  • when displayed vertically, the national ornament must be at the top;
  • the flag must be intact, clean, not faded and free of damage;
  • the flag may be displayed inside vehicles, provided legal requirements are observed.

If the design features of a building do not allow the flag to be fixed to the facade, it may be installed on a separate flagpole next to the building.

The document separately states that the national flag may not be used for commercial purposes during cultural, sports, public and other events.

The ban also remains in place on using the flag as clothing, bedding, curtains, tablecloths, rugs or other coverings. Intentional damage, burning, tearing, throwing the flag on the ground or any other actions degrading the dignity of the state symbol are not allowed.

Another change concerns athletes: the image of the national flag is now officially permitted on sports uniforms and equipment.

In addition, the resolution clarifies the procedure for displaying state symbols on official websites, stands and posters. They must be placed in a single sequence: first the national flag, then the national emblem and then the text of the national anthem. Uniform design requirements have also been established for stands: a blue background and gold-colored lettering.

The resolution, signed by the Prime Minister, will enter into force on July 13.
