Two free flights: Japan opens access to more than 40 destinations

Tengrinews.kz – Japan has introduced a new program aimed at encouraging foreign tourists to explore not only Tokyo and Kyoto but also lesser-known regions of the country. During the winter season of 2025–2026, travelers arriving from Europe and the United Kingdom will be able to receive free domestic flights.

How the program works

According to Time Out, the initiative is part of the Stopover & Add-on Free Fare project and will run from 24 November 2025 to 31 January 2026.

Participants can receive up to two free domestic flights on All Nippon Airways (ANA) in economy class. While the tickets themselves are free, taxes and service fees must be paid separately.

The key requirement: the traveler must be flying from Europe or the UK. Their international ticket is paid in full, but domestic flights within Japan are added free of charge. Travel status (tourist, student, etc.) does not matter.

How to book

Free ANA domestic flights can be booked until the end of January 2026:

• through travel agencies,
• in ANA’s overseas offices,
• or directly from the airline.

Domestic flights may be scheduled for any date—only the booking period is restricted, not the time of travel.

Where you can fly for free

The program includes more than 40 domestic ANA routes.

Among the destinations:

• the mountainous northern Tohoku region with its remote villages and landscapes,
• the southern Okinawa islands with their mild winter climate and ocean scenery.

Why Japan launched this initiative

Japan has been struggling with overtourism for several years. Most foreign visitors concentrate in Tokyo, Kyoto, and other major hubs, increasing the burden on local infrastructure.

The new program aims to spread tourists more evenly across the country, support regional economies, and encourage travelers to discover Japan’s lesser-known yet equally beautiful areas.
