Tengrinews.kz - A three-meter rattlesnake was found in a regular travel bag as it was being smuggled from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. The contraband was discovered at the Uzbek border customs post "Gishtkuprik."
"During the inspection at the 'Gishtkuprik' customs post, the snake was detected using control and X-ray equipment while checking the bag of a pedestrian entering from the neighboring country," said the Tashkent region customs office.
Preliminary information indicates that the three-meter snake is a tiger-like albino rattlesnake, which is predominantly found in South and Southeast Asia.
Since this species is listed in the international Red Book, an international CITES permit is required to import this animal into Uzbekistan. However, the owner of the bag was unable to provide the necessary documents to the customs officials.

The snake has been handed over to the Tashkent Zoo, where experts assess its condition as stable.
