Portsmouth police tries to wriggle out of the incident involving officer shooting unarmed Kazakh cook

Portsmouth Police Chief Ed Hargis answered questions in his office on Thursday about the shooting of an unarmed cook on Green Street on Saturday night, PilotOnline reports. The cook short dead is a 26-year old from Kazakhstan who worked in the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel for two years. He was killed in the house where his friend, also a cook, lived. According to officer Hargis the man was shot dead because he allegedly charged at an officer and ignored commands. Police released a recording of the 911 call at 10:10 p.m. Saturday in which a woman inside 454 Green St. reported that a man was trying to break the glass door of the apartment building. She relayed information from one of her neighbors in the building. "The suspect disregards the verbal commands being issued by the officer. He immediately places his hands at the mid-section of his body, in the waistband area, and then charges at the officer. The officer begins to retreat toward the sidewalk of Green Street while giving additional verbal commands. The suspect continues his advance on the officer, causing the officer to discharge his service weapon in an effort to stop the threat. This encounter lasted less than two minutes from the officer’s arrival to the discharge of the weapon,” Ed Hargis is quoted as saying by PilotOnline’s Patrick Wilson. The number of times the policeman pulled the trigger is still not confirmed, but one of the whiteness heard 6 shots. Kirill Denyakin’s friends said that was very intoxicated that evening and could barely walk let alone attack anyone. According to officer Hargis the investigation and interviews were still conducted so he couldn’t provide all information. Police is expecting a toxicology report for Denyakin shortly and will have forensic evidence from the scene tested. The name is the police officer who shot the young man is still held secret, officer Hargis only said that the policeman was with the Portsmouth police for 3 1/2 years. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has agreed to pay for Denyakin’s mother t travel to the United States to repatriate her son’s body.
