Kyrgyz Government decides to access Customs Union

The Government of Kyrgyzstan has approved an interagency committee to facilitate the country’s accession into the Customs Union of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus, Tengrinews.kz reports. “Should everything go as planned, we will join the Customs Union January 1”, Almazbek Atambayev, Kyrgyz Prime Minister, said today at the government’s sitting. According to him, Kyrgyzstan should seek accession. He underlined that Kyrgyzstan would join the Customs Union, remaining part of the WTO. The Customs Union member states account for 44.9% of Kyrgyz foreign trade, with Russia alone accounting for 26.9%, followed by Kazakhstan (16.8%) and Belarus (1.2%).
