Kazakhstan suggested to create the Antidrug Center, a permanent structure under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for countering illegal drug trafficking , KazPravda writes citing Kazakhstan Prosecutor General Askhat Daulbayev. According to Daulbayev, the new structure will help coordinate activities of law-enforcement authorities and special services of the SCO member-states in countering drug trafficking. Besides, the Antidrug Center will have to develop special projects. Daulbayev also called to create an inter-state operational-investigation groups specializing in countering drug trafficking. "In our opinion, it is reasonable to create a two-link mechanism under the agreement between the SCO member-states to advance cooperation in countering illegal drug trafficking. In addition to the existing higher link - the Council - it would be practical to establish second-level bodies - work groups of experts - to ensure a closer and more productive cooperation between prosecution offices. Such double-layer mechanism could be an effective basis for cooperation and coordination of the SCO's antidrug work,” Daulbayev said. The Prosecutor General also called to create a system of international inspectors and observers to monitor cultivation of drug-containing plants in Central Asia.
