Tengrinews.kz - A video showing a man fearlessly climbing a building to extinguish a fire on a balcony in Almaty has gone viral on social media. The heroic act was confirmed by the city’s Department of Emergency Situations (DES).
The video, posted on TikTok, captures the moment the man reacted to smoke coming from a fourth-floor apartment and decided to take action. Moving with the agility of a professional athlete, he climbed up to the balcony, located the burning object, and threw it down safely, making sure it wouldn’t harm anyone below.
The footage has garnered thousands of shares and over a thousand comments.
“He should be recruited by the fire department,” one user wrote.
The Almaty DES later confirmed the incident. On June 4 at 5:07 p.m., a fire broke out on the balcony of a fourth-floor apartment at Zhunisov Street, 2/23 in the Nauryzbay district, in the Alma City residential complex. The fire, which covered an area of about one square meter, was reportedly extinguished by a passerby, Asyl Akhmetov, before firefighters arrived.
“The man acted decisively, climbed onto the balcony, and threw the burning debris to the ground. Thanks to his quick response, the fire was contained and more serious consequences were avoided. Akhmetov has been nominated for an award by the Minister of Emergency Situations,” DES said.
It was also confirmed that Akhmetov is 33 years old.
Earlier, a major fire erupted in a residential complex in Astana.
